Rentokil, the Royal rat catcher, has again resisted suggestions that it should sell off underperforming businesses to focus on core, profitable activities. The news comes after the company issued a further profit warning for City Link, its parcel delivery business. (more…)

Biffa has agreed an offer of 350p per share from the private equity firm, Montagu Funds. The offer values Biffa at £1.2bn.

Biffa collects waste from over 1m UK households, has 42 treatment and recycling centres and 33 landfill sites, is seen as a market leader in waste management. A point that leads analysts to believe that a rival bid could be just around the corner, with a 400p per share price tag being achievable.
