British Energy is a popular target April 6th, 2008
British Energy, the nuclear generator, is proving to be a popular takeover target or partner as it courts five potential suitors. Centrica, EDF, RWE, Eon and Iberdrola are all taking an interest in British Energy as the UK Government looks to relieve itself of its 35% stake in the company.
The favourites for outright takeover are EDF and RWE, whilst our own Centrica is not deemed to have the necessary finances for such a bid, despite its record profit announcement earlier this year.
As more of our utility and energy companies end up in foreign hands, the more our bills seem to increase. If British Energy follows suit, don’t be surprised to see your energy costs rise by a few more percentage points.
