Oil strike hits Shell June 14th, 2008

The strike by oil tanker drivers is impacting on Shell petrol stations throughout the country and is likely to have a knock-on effect to other forecourts as Shell garages run out of fuel. Shell say their contingency plans are working well and people are not panic buying. However when people are told not to panic buy, they invariably do and it has to inevitable that fuel stocks start to run low.

The drivers have hinted that there could be another strike next week, which is surely going to hit home harder as there could well be insufficient time to replenish all stocks used this weekend.

Whilst most people agree that the drivers should earn a decent wage, many would argue that the £41,500 offer on the table is more than generous and that the drivers are just being greedy. After all, what other industry will be offering employees a pay rise of around 7% this year?
